This is an area that Violet has a lot
of experience in. We have produced posters, invitations, brochures, booklets, guides, documents and books. After centuries, the printed word is still the dominant form of communication in our world. The creative voice of designers are imperative to helping clients to craft a printed solution that stands out over the din of competing media, while maintaining clarity and function in terms of typography and the organization of information.

Ghost Posters
Each Summer, MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects host a two-week, design/build workshop on the coast of Nova Scotia. These are two posters that we designed to promote this annual gathering.

Canadian Association
of Student Financial Aid
Administrators
This week-long conference required a logo and program which carried a Nova Scotian theme. Our design played off the image of tartan and worked to preserve white space throughout the program, thus maintaining an uncrowded appearance and short typographic line lengths for easy reading on-the-go.

Yang Hang
Yang Hong is a Vancouver-based artist. For his thesis work, Weather or Not, we decided to draw formal elements from the body of work and incorporate them into his invitations and promotional material. The material was produced in different colour combinations, and captures the essential, warm joyful quality of Yang’s work.

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation
The ACIC has an ongoing project called “First Voices”, which brings together young artists from across the globe to collaborate across cultural boundaries. This year, Violet designed the packaging for the CD/DVD compilation of the group’s musical exploration.

Association of Psychologists of
Nova Scotia - Advocacy Package
This collaboration required us to design 15 pages, each page focusing on a different psychological issue or condition. The design revolved around the considerate use of black and white photography, careful organization of information with a focus on clarity and readability.

Adero Willard - Peel and Resist
Adero’s work for this exhibition was a series of very rough, intensely coloured ceramic explorations into texture, pattern and material. We incorporated a close-up image of one of the pieces, and employed the Disturbance typeface in order to communicate the obsessive, physical nature of the body of work. The blue area is textured with tiny patterns to echo the interest the artist had in exploring pattern in the work as well.

Catherine Allen
Catherine is a Jeweller with a background in biology. She likes to produce work which echoes the structures of lifeforms around us. We created an invitation to her MFA Thesis Exhibition which focused on a detail of one of her works and coupled it with a light typographic treatment and soft colour, drawn from the work itself.
